I wonder as I wander [RP for

"So, tell me what you think of LA," Lucy said as she drew squiggles in the sand with her bare toe. She and Donovan were walking on the beach. It was close to sunset and over all a beautiful evening.
"I've never actually been there. We went to Disney World once when I was little but LA is one of the many places I've never been. I've seen it on tv and in the movies. Is it anything like that?"

Donovan had promised that he'd cook for her that night but first Lucy wanted to practice in some more cliche beach house behavior like the long walks on beaches during the sunset, and Donovan wasn't going to argue. So they headed out barefoot with his jeans rolled up a bit and started to walk along the shoreline stopping every so often.
"LA is pretty good, I mean I think if I had grown up somewhere else maybe I'd hate it. The weather is pretty steady, and really the smog can get to you in the mornings sometimes. I mean out here when I haven't been sleeping too late I've caught a few sunrises, and they're nice. LA is a lot of what you see on television but it's not as easy access I guess. I mean there are famous people and the palm trees lining the streets, but it's not something you really notice when you live there for so long. It's just part of the package. But with the high class you also get the no rain, the fires, the pollution and crime and there aren't too many shows that give you that side of things."

Leaning down Donovan picked up a flat stone washed smooth by the tides and moved to rinse it off in the water for a moment. "I hate to pull out stuff from my Lit class Sophmore year, but most the people in Los Angeles are just like this stone. Beaten down into looking just like everyone else around them."

He was teasing, and being flat out sarcastic going on about it all, and when Lucy mentioned coming to LA to see it for herself he laughed again, "Are you sure? The fake boobs might be worth the trip out. Some of them are a bit scary to notice."
Letting his laughter fade out a bit he nodded, "But if you ever do want to come to Los Angeles let me know. I can crash on the couch in my apartment and you can stay in the bedroom. Because well I'm a gentleman and all that."

She leaned down and picked up a rock, tossing it out to the water. She turned just right, twisted her ankle and fell with a shriek that turned into a laugh.
no subject
"I can't take you anywhere!" Donovan proclaimed as he looked at her seated on the sand, "Good thing I haven't gotten my boobs yet, or I'd be all off balance too!"
There was the witty comeback.
Extending a hand out he let her take his and when he pulled her up he stooped down and hauled her over his shoulder, "Ahhh... just like the days of cavemen. See this should keep you from falling anymore. Come on, we'll head back to the house I'll get you some ice so that doesn't swell and I'll start cooking dinner alright?"

Still he continued back up the shoreline shifting her on purpose everytime she made some comment about needing him to fetch her fine wines and flowers when she demanded them. "Yes you can have a fruity drink and I'll make sure it's purely for medical reasons with the numbing factor being taken into affect of course. Plus vitamin C."
Once back up at the house Donovan set her down on the couch, shaking his head as she stuck her hand out, "I was kidding about the bell. I don't have one for you to ring at me, just hold on a minute let me get you some ice." A light jog to the kitchen and he was grabbing one of the many ice packs from the fridge and wrapping it in a kitchen towel as he headed back out to Lucy.
Setting it gently on her ankle he made sure to shove a pillow under her foot too, "Elevation for something. See? Mail room guy, not a doctor. But if it's too cold or something let me know. Now, I'm going to go prepare your 'fruity drink' and you can entertain me or watch TV either way, I'm kitchen bound."
no subject
"You're good at this taking care of Lucy duty too," she commented. "Rum in the fruityness please! Although seriously, if you don't want to do the taking care of me thing I'm good at hobbling slash hopping. I've twisted things and broken things often enough that I should be a pro at it. Oh! And a pretty glass! They're under the bar thingy there."
no subject
When she pointed to the bar where the 'pretty glass' was he turned and followed her pointing and retrieved said 'pretty glass' and moved back over to set it on the counter next to the margarita mix and the bottle of Malibu Rum he had picked up when they went grocery shopping earlier for all the things he wanted for the whole Donovan Cooks Dinner event.
Grabbing two small plates he poured the large grain salt he picked up as well onto the surface of the one and then poured a bit of the mix onto the other and set the glass upside down in the shallow puddle of liquid while he got out the mixer and started to make her margarita on the rocks.
Letting it set for a moment he cut a few wedges of lime and then in a skilled move he picked up the glass from the one plate and set it in the salt, twisting it and flipping it out onto the counter. A napkin wiped a bit of the salt away for the lime wedge and then another spot cleaned off the rim that he noticed her licking off the other night just for those sips between salted ones. Then another shake of the drink and he strained it into the glass, before setting the shaker down.
Picking the glass up he moved back toward Lucy and presented it to her, "Fruity drink freshly prepared, and dinner... is so far from being served, but if you sip slowly? Maybe you'll be drunk quick and time won't seem to pass so slow while I cook."
no subject
She stuck her tongue out and licked half way around the rim of the glass before taking a sip. "Mmmm and don't worry about the slow. Oooo you could do the naked chef thing and it'd totally be like my own personal cooking show. Only the naked might be awkward so I'll just have to settle for the personal part. Besides, the naked chef is totally not really all the way naked. Can you imagine how bad that would be if you were frying things and it popped? Much with the bad."

Opening the fridge he started to take out the stuff he bought and set them on the counter as he continued, "So I figured it wouldn't hurt. I mean bartenders make some pretty good money, and if the whole mail room thing doesn't pan out? I can sling some drinks."
Everything set out he opened a few cabinets before turning to Lucy to ask, "Cutting board?" To which she pointed as she sipped at her drink and he turned to where she directed and found the board with ease. Pulling a knife from the drawer he started slicing up the peppers and kept talking.
"I also took a semester of cooking classes, and three weeks of basket weaving, but I honestly have no clue how to weave a basket. I made about two dozen pot holders before the teacher let me drop."
no subject
She said it like it was something horrifying.
no subject
"Yeah the bartending thing would be easy, I mean I've got that whole naive about flirting thing going on. So I'm pretty sure the women-folk would take kindly to that sort of behavior. It makes me adorable I've been told."
no subject
"No, I'm okay. Really," she assured him before busting into giggles again. "You are adorable and the naive to flirting thing is just a part of it. There's also...women-folk," she said with another giggle.
"I won't tell anyone about the potholder. I'll just hold it in very high esteem. I mean I wouldn't want to be responsible for breaking the American Economy. I could even buy it. Of course something like that is worth so much more than mere money. I'll have to come up with something appropriate to compensate you," she flirted.
She took another sip of her drink, purposely licking the rim of her glass slowly with just the tip of her tongue.
"Like free closet organization, shopping and wardrobe advice at least a week's worth of home cooked, Southern meals," she decided with a nod/

Once he had finished slicing up the steak and he put that right into the bowl with the peppers. Before he started with the chicken he grabbed a wooden bowl from a cabinet and started to pour the oil into the bottom and a variety of seasonings and spices. Once he had that looking okay to him he dumped the peppers and steak right into it and mixed it by hand.
Washing his hands and cleaning off the cutting board he let that sit while he started on the chicken.
"Still working on that first drink? Is it at least helping with the ankle thing?"
no subject
She took a healthy swig of her margarita. "And I'm still working but I'll be done in a little while."
She leaned her head against the back of the couch and watched Donovan cook. "So what kind of side affects does the medicine you have to take have? 'Cause you know they all have them. You see the commercial. I mean Viagra can caused death so...does yours cause like heart palpitations, male pattern baldness, incontinance and an amazing tolerance for girls like me? Or are the side effects less tramatizing?"
no subject
"Well I'm the only test subject, so it's pretty much every little thing I feel that's not normal I have to let them know. They've gone through so many versions of this meds that I've had everything from grinding my teeth, to night sweats to dry skin on my palms. It's never been too bad, just usually something having to do with my internal chemistry trying to stay all... in line? Currently the one I'm on now I get headaches, but it's pretty rare and usually only because my body tries to counter it after a few days of injections. It's odd, my body runs through it so fast that it never builds up that tolerance, but it still gets sick of having it in my body."
no subject
She watched Donovan for a moment. "Do they ever think that it'll be something more...permenant. For lack of a better example, something like a once a month birth control shot or something? 'Cause you know that controls hormones and keeps the body fromd oing things it's supposed to and stuff so...bad comparison but I'm a girl so that's what you get."
no subject
"The headaches aren't that bad," he answered as he grabbed a pan and set it on the stove. Turning the burner on he let the pan warm up and then with his hands pulled out a handful of the steak and pepper mix tossing it into the pan listening to it sizzle up, as he turned the heat down.
"Usually it's a morning thing, so I can just pass it off as it being too early. As for the more birth control method of treatment? It's be awesome, but the way my body chemistry is? It'd kinda be like if you had your..."
Donovan wasn't about to say that word while he was cooking, "Well if you had *that* everyday and you had to stop your body from doing that every day. It's not just like a chemical gets released once a month and I suffer the effects the rest of the days. My body is constantly creating the hormone that causes it. I mean maybe surgically they'll be able to remove it? But I think that'd kinda take away part of me you know?"
no subject
She drained her glass and pondered the situation for a moment. "So what about something like...an implant that released chemicals every day? I mean not that the whole injection thing bothers me. I think it's cool but it's gotta kinda suck for you."
no subject
"They've looked into the implant at the base of my spine, but really considering they'd have to wire it to be able to work for me in both forms just in case something goes wrong? I'm not really sure I'm comfortable with that just yet. I mean if they implant it and maybe I get kidnapped... or in a car wreck and I run out. Then I shift and that begs the question, what happens to the implant that is that close to my spine. I mean it's a single injection a day right now, and I don't have to do any blood level tests or anything. It's pretty routine and I'm pretty sure the other options of treatment are a bit more scary."
Moving back to the stove he set the pan down, on a low flame and headed back out to Lucy to check on her ice pack situation, and grab her empty glass, "It's not really sucky for me... it's odd to explain to people on flights, or to cops if they pull me over because the name of the drug doesn't really lend itself to trustworthy sounding, but it's just what I'm used to. Who knows, maybe in a few years I'll just live the dual life, and never sleep being a wolf at night and me during the day."
Heading back to the kitchen with Lucy's glass he grabbed the shaker and poured the last bit of the first mix into her glass and shoved another wedge onto the edge and returned to her, "Another, and sorry I didn't resalt the rim, but it's not like you actually use the salt to counter the sweet of the drink anyway," and to her look, "Don't even tell me you didn't think I hadn't noticed that," the casual shrug and back into the kitchen he went to continue with the meal prep.
no subject
She couldn't hold it for long before giggling. "Well you were meant to notice," she informed him. She took a sip of her drink.
"I can understand the scary. I mean spine stuff is totally scary. I'd be petrified if it were me. Can you do that? The never sleeping thing? Or does the wolf sleep sometimes? I mean like if you're exhausted would the wolf sleep? And what does the wolf usually do? Do you remember? I know you said you thought you were a nice wolf."
no subject
"I mean legend goes that Etienne hardly slept for most of it. Sometimes during the mornings, but there isn't much on record of what the wolf did. In the beginning I didn't remember much, but as it went on I guess I adjusted. Now though? It's been so long... I'm not really sure what would happen, and that's probably more scary than I care to realize."
With all the steak almost cooked through and the peppers looking pretty good so far, Donovan dropped the chicken into the pan and started to stir that in. The chicken was going to take the least amount of time to cook, and it usually took on flavor pretty well, so he didn't have to worry about the whole seasonings thing. Leaving the pan over the flame he moved back out to Lucy on the couch, "Food's almost done, your chariot of my hauling your ass over to the table is available, or we can eat out here, your house, so it's your call."
no subject
She wiggled a little, rearranging herself so that there would be room for Donovan on the couch. "Aww you'd be so cute. You could actually keep up with my night owl-ness then," she teased.
"And I'd be really nice. You could lay on the couch with me and watch reruns and infomercials. This wolf thing is sounding better and better. Jill and I were talking about getting a puppy," she joked.
no subject
Then he went back to the kitchen to turn the flame up a bit higher to get those fancy scorch marks on the skin of the peppers and make sure it was hot enough for it to still sizzle when he put it in the bowl for serving. It seemed to just need a few minutes to sit there heating through some more so Donovan started to grab the cheese and lettuce along with the guacamole that they had made before they went out to the beach along with the rest of the supplies and set them out onto the serving tray.
He grabbed the stoneware from the oven and double checked the tortillas which were perfect and peeling apart from the clump stack they had been before, and brought that out too. Next he brought out plates and napkins, then finished it off with the serving of the actual food.
"There's steak and chicken, so you can pick out what you want, or have both. It's hot so don't burn your mouth, and... you need another drink and I need something as well. Plus we're not going anywhere so I'll even have myself a fruity drink too."
no subject
She took a deep breath as he arranged the food. "It smells absolutly yummy. I like the being cooked for thing. It doesn't happen often unless I'm home and Mom is doing the cooking."
She started to pile her plate up with things, layering everything in the tortilla. "You know I'm going to make a mess of this," she warned him. "it will not be my finest hour but that's okay."
no subject
Once more he grabbed all the things he needed to mix the margaritas and picked out two clean glasses to salt the rims of and when he was done mixing he poured the two and headed to join Lucy on the couch. Setting his margarita down on his table he produced the stack of napkins and then handed her the new drink before setting down himself.
"So spillage report?"
no subject
She licked some of the salt off the rim of the glass before taking a sip. "This all looks really good, Donovan. Thank you," she said seriously. She started making a plate, piling things into a tortilla as she went.
no subject
Setting his glass back down he took a bit of his own fajita and chewed for a moment before swallowing and starting up the conversation again, "You know joking aside, you should really try to come visit me. I mean LA isn't all fake boobs and fake... well fakeness. We could at least make a weekend of it. Try to plan it around a premiere at Grauman's."
no subject
She took another swig of her margarita, licking at the rim of the glass. "That'd be really awesome sauce if you didn't mind me crashing. Somehow, I think they'd be less horrified by the sex in the dressing room skit though," she teased him.
no subject
Shifting on the couch a bit Donovan settled in, "So other than watching you get drunk again while we eat it's rounding up the week I'm spending here anything else I need to cross off my 'Visit Lucy' list?"
no subject
She tilted her head, considering Donovan's question for a moment. "Uhm...you've seen me be a huge klutz, we've gone out, eaten dinner, walked on the beach, bought you clothes, watched informcials and I've woken you up in the middle of the night because I was bored...I think we're good on the list. Unless we decide to add things to it."
no subject
Starting to put together his second fajita Donovan smiled as he set the fork back near the meat, "You know putting it that way? Listing it all off it does seem like we've done an awful lot this week. If you do visit me in LA I'll have my work cut out for me to make it the same kind of quality visit for sure."
no subject
She took a bight of her fajita and chewed and swallowed before she spoke again. "Not really. I'm pretty easy to entertain. You do have to take me to Rodeo drive though or at least point me in that direction."
no subject
At Lucy's mention of Rodeo Drive Donovan nodded, "Got it. So high end fashion shopping is required." Giving it more thought Donovan smirked as he pushed the tray away from him and took a light jog toward the kitchen grabbing a pen and pad of paper.
"Alright lets do this the right way, because I'd prefer to have it all planned out in advance so I can at least find out where these things can be found, Rodeo Drive aside because I know where that is."
Sitting down turning toward Lucy he jotted down Rodeo Drive and then poised the pen over the paper, "Alright make your requests now or forever hold your shopping urges in Los Angeles when you visit me."
no subject
"Melrose street definitely. Johnny Rockets because their hamburgers are legendary..." she mused. "So typical tourist..." she laughed.
"Chinese Theater, Sunset strip, Universal and Magic Mountain. I love roller coasters. Oh! Can we go to LA Ink? I mean High Voltage Tattoo where they do it? I might even get like a bumblebee on my shoulder or something. That'd be cute. OH!Oh! Oh! Oh! An ELEPHANT!" she exclaimed excitedly.
She laughed then. "I'm okay. Really. Uhm...you have to take me to some of your favorite places in LA too. And I have to see where you work."
