House Warming Party! Open to everyone!

Lucy surveyed the house, assuring herself that everything was ready for the party. The back french doors were open to the beach outside. There was a keg on the porch along with cups. The tiki bar she'd bought was set up on the porch also. She had on the new Betsey Johnson dress she'd bought just for the occasion but her feet were bare. She didn't see the point in putting on heels if she was going to be out in the sand.

She turned her ipod on, tuning it to the party playlist she'd made and wandered behind the bar to make herself a drink in a pink disposable martini glass.

"Jill! Everyone will be here soon!" she yelled at her room mate and best friend.

"Oh Sugar, I'm from the South. We hug," Lucy laughed. She hugged Alex then released her. "It's nice to meet you."

"Um, y-yeah," Alex said, flushing a little. "You too."

She glanced away quickly when she saw the look on Paige's face.

"Maybe we should get some drinks, sweetie," Paige smiled sweetly.

"Yes!" Alex said, a bit too eagerly. "Drinks, right. I'll um. Just go get us some then."

She hurried away in the direction of the keg.

"help yourself. Tiki bar and keg are completely open. If you need anything just ask," Lucy said with a smile.

She didn't notice the awkward but then she rarely ever did.

Paige watched, amused as Alex received the hug somewhat awkwardly.

"Thank you for the tickets, by the way. I'm not sure if I got the chance to say that properly before."

"Oh, you're very welcome! I'm glad you could come," Lucy said, waving it off. "I log mad miles traveling from here to Birmingham during football season."

"Really?" Paige smiled. "I used to cheer in highschool, but I can't say I'm that into watching."

"What's this about football?" Alex asked, coming back, drinks in hand. She had a cup of beer for herself and a mai tai for Paige, which she handed over quickly, trying to look as sweet as possible.

"I was cheer captain in highschool but I'm a massive, huge Bama football fan," Lucy said. "Rolltide! I know nothing about how the game is played. I just like watching my boys."

"Your boys? We can only be discussing football then." Jill walked over to Lucy and smiled at the newcommers. "Hello, I'm Jill."

"What else," Lucy grinned at Jill.

Paige smiled politely at Lucy. "So you grew up there?"

While waiting for Lucy to respond, she shot a quick warning glance in her girlfriend's direction. She wasn't sure she liked the looks that Alex was sending Lucy. Maybe a little too sweet. Paige took a long sip of her drink.

Alex caught Paige's unpleased look and hurriedly took a sip of her drink, looking away.

"Hey," she said, as Jill came up to them, glad for the distraction. "I'm Alex. And this is my girlfriend, Paige." She turned to Paige, smiling.

"Alex and Paige. Nice to meet you both. Where are you both from?" Jill shook both of their hands. "I'm guessing Lucy has offered drinks?"

"Oh, we definitely have drinks," Paige smiled. "Thank you. We're from Toronto. Canada."

"They wanted to come and so I let them use my frequent flier miles," Lucy explained. "I'll just rack a bunch more up in less than a month."

Alex chimed in, "And we're so glad that you helped us out with that. Paige and I have been wanting to come to California for forever. But we're both pretty broke," she added. "Thanks, though. It was very nice of you."

"Lucy's the best." Jill beamed at her best friend in pride. "I'm so glad you both could come. I've seen pictures of Canada. It looks like a beautiful place to live."

"You're so biased and it's fabulous," Lucy laughed at Jill's comment.

"It looks like it's very pretty. And cold. I'm a Southern girl. I think I'd freeze to death up there."
