[Lucy is sitting on a bench by the fountain. She's got a cup of coffee and a fashion magazine with her. She's idly flipping through it, dog earring certain pages and then moving on. She appears to be waiting for something.]

So I know it's a long shot 'cause really who wants to leave Birmingham or come back to this place. Doesn't stop a girl from hoping.

And now I just sound patheta-sad.

[jill doesn't say anything. She just moves back down the few steps it takes to get to Lucy. Wrapping her arms around her, she pulls her close. It's rare that Lucy gets so emotionally attached to a guy so she knows this one must have been something special.]

[Lucy just snuggles up to Jill. It's been so long since she had Jill to comfort her. She's fairly teary by the time she finally tries to talk]

I think so. he was way indulgent.

[With as many times as Lucy has done this for her, Jill really is glad when she gets a chance to comfort Lucy in return.]

I wish he were here too. I sorta think maybe he was evil. Not to me. He was awesomesauce to me, but to other people...possibly evil.

[Jill had seen evil her whole life. She had loved evil, even. It was conflicting. And she could understand loving despite of things.]

Hey, we should totally veg on the couch with chocolate and watch the boys last season on DVD. You said you had it, right?

Are you kidding? We'll cook something divine. I bought a deep fryer a few months ago. We could deep fry twinkies.

I haven't had a deep fried twinkie since the fair last fall. Do you remember the first time we went to a fair when your parents took us and I was scared of the deep fried twinkie.

[Of course Jill was scared of a lot of things until Lucy made her confront them.]

To be fair pretty much anything deep fried is amazing. You taught me that.

One of those facts of life like the sky is blue. [She gets the deep fryer out from under the sink along with a large bottle of peanut oil. The oil gets poured in the deep fryer and it gets turned on.]

Oh, the same. It's awesome, I guess. You tried to set me up with some guy who you thought was into classical music but he ended up just being interested in you. He thought he was impressing you. It was pretty funny.

[Lucy is aware of this but it does make her smile. She gives a fake, obvious wince and then nods vigorously]

You have to think of the children. You wouldn't want them stuck with a nose like that.
