Roll tide?

It's a thing. A football thing. Which is a game that boys play in tight pants. They throw a ball around and it is epic. You just have to trust me on this.

Anyway in Alabama there's a college team called the Alabama Crimson Tide and their motto thing is 'Roll Tide'. And it's appropriate as a greeting, a goodbye, a celebration...pretty much anything. You just say roll tide.

And it's very very home. No one else in the world gets it except someone from Alabama and I am very, very homesick, Sage.

I'm sorry. I--do know what football is?

[...this is less than helpful, he realizes, and he runs a hand over his hair as he searches his mind for something more comforting.]

I could get it now? When you say it. ...does that help?

That helps. Lots.

Roll tide!

Also, I have a dvd of Bama's last season that someone who's gone home gave me. I could show you football if you wanted.

Roll tide? [Is he saying it right? HE JUST DOESN'T KNOW.]

Oh--sure. I'd like that.

Roll Tide! Good. And then see you use inflection to make it a greeting or a celebration or a goodbye or whatever.

You don't have to if you're totally not interested in sports.

It's like 'fuck'. Except--it's not. I mean it's different. But you can use both a lot.

[Momentary flail and--] No, I--like sports, I was a cheerleader. Once.

Re: video (

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-01-10 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
Yes! It's exactly like that. Except you can say it in church and in Birmingham you're encouraged to say it in church.

Really? That is awesome. I was a cheerleader too!

Roll tide, amen?

I'm not surprised. That you were a cheerleader.

You are the best congregation ever

I give off that vibe?

[identity profile] ageoftheg33k.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
Roll tide, kiddo.

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Have an unexpected, giant rush of tears.]

Roll tide.

[She takes a deep breath, looks up at the ceiling and keeps her gaze fixed there, trying not to fall apart]

You know I love you, right?

[identity profile] ageoftheg33k.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 05:19 am (UTC)(link)
Whoa, Lucy. I'm so sorry, I thought--

[Have oops-face! Also some awkward...] Well, yeah. Of course. You know I love you too.

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 07:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Shhh you did good. Roll tide is always a good thing to say to me. It just caught me sorta by surprise. I get used to the whole City going '...what?' when I say it. It just...seems a lot like home whenever you say it. That's a good thing.

Well duh. Of course you do.

[identity profile] ageoftheg33k.livejournal.com 2011-01-08 07:27 am (UTC)(link)
Okay, then. Good. I'm glad. [Still sadfacing, he feels really bad.] If I wasn't at work I'd totally make you play some snow ball with me.

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Snow ball? Like snow ball fights?

Working on something fun at least?

[identity profile] ageoftheg33k.livejournal.com 2011-01-11 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
Nah, like football in the snow. Get a game going; always see soccer around here, never any football.

Not even, just cleaning up a crapton of code, actually. We had a couple of guys who used to work here and they left the City so I've been trying to go through their files. Meh-ssy.

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-01-12 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Ooooh we should do that. Football league. You can help me.

Blech. That sounds gross, Hardison. You need to find the fun.

The Master's a little bit of an advantage-taker, possibly. He comes and finds Lucy, anyway.

"We can find you the next season, if you'd like. Or another person from Alabama to talk to. Or someone who plays for the Crimson Tide. I'll hunt any of those down if deemed necessary."

Re: [Action]

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 07:11 pm (UTC)(link)
Well he's got to take his chances at being awesome when he can.

His offer makes her smile then giggle. "I kind of thing the Boys need everybody on the Team and that would make Coach Saben sad or maybe angry but next season would be amazing."

And he gets an armful of Lucy along with a kiss against his jaw.

Re: [Action]

[identity profile] neverendingbeat.livejournal.com 2011-01-07 09:08 pm (UTC)(link)
Yay, Lucy-armful! Exactly what he was going for. He kisses her back before responding.

"Then I will find it, and we can watch it. You can even have a couple of parties for it, if you'd like that."

Re: [Action]

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-01-09 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
"Oooooh tailgating. Or tablegating. One of the best things about football."

She pauses, giving him a grateful smile. "Thank you, Harry."

If she could say the words to Harry as easily as she could to Hardison, she'd be breaking out the L word right now.

"If you need anything else, don't hesitate to ask," says the Master magnanimously, "or to make a themed post, naturally. I'll work it out."

Re: [Action]

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-01-12 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
"Well the themed posts give you something to do. Puzzling it all out," Lucy beams up at him. "Best boyfriend ever."

Re: [Action]

[identity profile] neverendingbeat.livejournal.com 2011-01-13 04:01 pm (UTC)(link)
"I do try," says the Master modestly. Well. At least a pretense of modesty. "And expressing your issues through posts does rather make it into a game." He raises his eyebrows. "More interesting."

Re: [Action]

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-01-15 07:16 pm (UTC)(link)
"And who wants to be boring or have anything like privacy." Lucy bounces on the balls of her feet when she says it. Privacy and boring are way over rated as far as Lucy is concerned. Even when interesting can be tiring.

"We could have a reality show."

Re: [Action]

[identity profile] neverendingbeat.livejournal.com 2011-01-16 12:10 am (UTC)(link)
"We might do already. It seems fairly likely, don't you think? Especially considering the curses."

Re: [Action]

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2011-01-17 08:13 pm (UTC)(link)
That is definitely a pout on Lucy's face.

"I was hoping to have higher rating then a handful of deities. We're lots more entertaining than Spencer and Heidi."

Re: [Action]

[identity profile] neverendingbeat.livejournal.com 2011-01-17 10:39 pm (UTC)(link)
"I'm sure we are," says the Master, reassuringly. Even though he has no clue who they are. "So would you prefer MORE impromptu posts? Videos going up without you realising?"
