★ 09 [video] Cashmere is humane. this, not so much

[Lucy is sitting on the floor with her dog next to her. There's a pout firmly fixed on her face and she's watching a lamb in her living room. She looks close to tears.]

So for the last forty five minutes I've been trying to convince myself it's for the good of humanity, like buying cashmere sweaters. Difference? I'm not getting a pretty sweater out of this and I might want to keep her. Her name is Cleopatra.

I can sacrifice a different one for you tomorrow and you don't have to watch.

Like getting my gyros at that Greek place down the street from my dorm.

[No her logic is not like other people's logic]

I feel like I'm a horrible person for saying yes please and now I wish I was Catholic so I could confess I let a sheep be murdered in my defense. Also because they'd probably poo poo it off because Catholics? Very bloody religion. I'm pretty sure the worst Southern Baptists have done is shoot someone when they were drunk because they thought it was a deer. Classy religion I come from.

[And now she's not thinking much about murdering lambs. Which was the point of going off on the religion tangent anyway]

Do you wear wool? And you're not a vegetarian. The only difference to this sort of exploitation is that it's a little closer-to-home.

We can eat it afterwards, if it helps to think of not wasting it. And I promise to be very...haha, humane and to hypnotise it so that it doesn't even notice. Scout's honour.

[Not, of course, mentioning that he'll be eating it either way. Perfectly good lamb we are talking about, here!]

And Daddy hunts and we have venison stew sometimes. He's got this big ugly stag head over his desk. The stag head's name is Namath. I'm not anti hunting and killing animals. Just one's with names that have shared my morning latte shhhh it calmed her down. And Namath didn't have a name until after he was already stuffed, dead and bodyless.

Gyros? With that yummy creamy I-don't-know-what-it-is sauce? And green bell peppers and onions. I'll actually cook them if you'll make the lamb meat look the way it does when I buy it in the grocery store.

I have to find out what that sauce is first.

Ah, anthropormorphising. Rarely a good idea.

I can do that, unless you want it to all be plastic-wrapped and on little trays. In which case, that's going a bit far.

Tzatziki?

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Hey! You named Masha.

Nooooo I'm not that silly [This is of course debatable but in this instance...]

Maybe? It's like a yogurt thing and it's yummy on gyros.

[identity profile] neverendingbeat.livejournal.com 2010-04-01 12:05 am (UTC)(link)
I wasn't intending to sacrifice her. A subtle difference.

Tzatziki, then. I'll get some.

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2010-04-01 02:01 am (UTC)(link)
Good point. Feeding her latte was probably a mistake too because now we have things in common like liking lattes.

Okay! I'll bring over the onions and bell peppers and I think I've got hoagie rolls.

She can come hang out with Spartacus.

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 02:47 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm glad I'm not the only one who adopted one. They're adorable.

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 03:04 pm (UTC)(link)
I didn't intend to, but yeah, it kind of happened.

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 09:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Mine wanted latte and so I thought it'd help with the whole...you know. Except it didn't and then she had a name and now she's living in my bathroom.

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2010-03-31 11:33 pm (UTC)(link)
How did you know it wanted latte?

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2010-04-01 01:59 am (UTC)(link)
Because if I were a lamb and about to die I would want latte?

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2010-04-01 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
But do you know you're about to die?

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
No but I always want a latte.

[identity profile] not-so-smooth.livejournal.com 2010-04-02 02:48 am (UTC)(link)
Hard to argue with that kind of logic.

[identity profile] disregard-death.livejournal.com 2010-04-03 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
Hey, Maybe... we're all goin about this tha wrong way?

[identity profile] mghtbconcussed.livejournal.com 2010-04-04 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
You mean the slaughtering and blood smearing?

[identity profile] disregard-death.livejournal.com 2010-04-06 12:15 am (UTC)(link)
Aye, I mean. It's just the BLOOD of a lamb in some stories, can't we jus nick one?
