Lucy’s biggest triumphs

1. Getting into Berkeley. I got accepted at other places because whether I look it or act it, the truth is I’m pretty smart but other places weren’t in California half a country away. I adore my parents and Alabama will always be home. I get misty eyed when I hear Sweet Home Alabama but I needed to be somewhere else. Berkeley was the perfect ‘somewhere else’.

2. Stealing Tiffany Anne’s boyfriend, Rodney. It wasn’t like he was that much of a catch but she was that much of a bitch. I dumped him a week later.

3. Scoring those size 6 and a half Blahniks from that hag at the sample sale. Like her foot was really going to fit in there anyway. It was the last pair. I still have those shoes. I adore those shoes.

4. Making the Dean’s list at Berkeley one semester. I kind of got over zealous about going to class one semester. There was this totally hot guy in half my classes. Turned out he was a jerk and I haven’t been to class that much since. Boys are totally not a reason to go to class.

5. High school graduation. Mama and Daddy looked so proud of me. Anytime I can make them smile like that, it’s a triumph. Also, I made it all the way across the stage without falling on my face. Unless you know me you don’t realize what a massive accomplishment that is.

6. Captain of my high school cheerleading team. I so deserved it. Like there is anyone more bouncy than me? Please

7. The day Jill got officially adopted by her parents. Sure I didn’t really have anything to do with it but knowing she wasn’t going to have to go home to that nightmare ever again…totally a triumph.

8. The first Christmas dinner Mama let me cook all by myself. I know I don’t exactly come across as Susie Homemaker but I’m a damn good cook and everyone loved my food and it was just really cool. I’ve kind of toyed with the idea of becoming a chef…you know if I were to decide to get motivated and all that stuff.

9. Passing my driver’s test. Again…you’d have to know me to get it. Or have driven with me.

10. November 17, 2001: Alabama’s last victory against Auburn in the Iron Bowl. Again I wasn’t really on the field but I was in the stands screaming my lungs out and I’m a Tide Girl. Any victory for my team, especially against the Tigers is a personal triumph for me.
